Best Joint Issue of 2006

On behalf of the International Philatelic Society of Joint Stamp Issues Collectors, I am pleased to reveal that our members have chosen the following stamps as the Best Joint Issues for the year 2006.

1: Austria and Hong Kong
Fireworks

Austria Post and Hong Kong Post are the recipients of the 2006 Best Joint Issue award for Fireworks issue released on August 22, 2006. Designed by Adolf Tuma (Austria) and Arde Lam (Hong Kong). Printed by Österreichische Staatdruckerei (Austria).

2: Finland and Sweden
Suomenlinna

Second place was awarded to Finland and Sweden for the Suomenlinna issue released on May 4, 2006. Designed by Eric Bruun. Typographed by Gustav Mårtensson. Engraved by Martin Mörck. Printed by Sweden Post Stamps.



3: Canada and United States
Champlain Surveys the East Coast, 1606

Third place was awarded to Canada and the United States for the Champlain issue released on May 28, 2006. Designed by François Martin and Réjean Myette. Souvenir sheet designed by Terrence MacCaffrey. Illustrated by Francis Back and Martin Côté. Printed by Canadian Bank Note (Canada) and Ashton-Potter (United States).


The selection was made among 32 joint issues released in 2006 involving 57 postal administrations (but only 49 countries) and representing in total 148 stamps and 34 souvenir sheets. Omnibus and territorial issues were excluded from the contest.

Congratulations to all postal administrations and to their designers for the high quality stamps produced during the year 2006.
